Chapter Four
“Okay thanks _________________,” threw back as he races down the stairs.
“Its ________________,” she corrected while completing to join him or to watch from afar.
_________________ didn't notice he had his eyes stuck on _______________. Maybe too focus.
“Hey!! You're too close to the red zone!! Dunk!!“ A voice yelled.
It brought ______________ mind out a little before him to look for what he was supposed to be dodging. He didn't have to look far. Right in front of him was a ring of fire that started in the center of the ring and was spreading outwards towards him. In a panic ______________ jumped forward several stairs. He landed on the edge of the stairs not catching friction his sneakers slipped sliding him forward several more stairs. He manage to twist a bit so only his left side of his body to the brunt of the pain. He was mostly out the line of fire still approaching him. He pushed his body up a little to jump down a few more stair but his left foot was not cooperating and ended down ten more and a swollen ankle. But he was safely out of fire way when it hit the stadium. The fire lit everything in flame, but only for a millisecond before it went out.
_______________ stood on his right foot to observe the 'damage' but there was none. Not even the tiniest burn mark. Maybe he exaggerated the threat and could have saved himself an ankle. At the corner of his eye he notice ______________ sitting little more than several rows up watching. He the turn to see a crowd of highschoolers with expression ranging between shock and bewilderment. The he looked at the face he came here for. Her face was gastly white despite her natural dark tan skin tone. And next to her stood a feverishly red older women. Ok, maybe not an exaggeration.
_________________ searched to arena for the mechanism that could have caused the fire but found none.
“Don't you know better to enter the red zone durning defense combat class!!“ the older woman yelled screeched, “who are you?! What's your class?!“
“Sorry, I-I'm a collage student, transfer, I-I forgot, ummm, I need to speak with her,” _________________ decided to give up making up an excuse and lie and just went for it pointing directly to ________________.
_________________ took a step back startled and confused. The head coach turned to look at her. She shook her head.
“What business does a college student have with a highschool student?“
“It's uh, private personal emergency! Can. Can we talk in private, I don't like yelling. And I am pretty sure this is disturbing the class.“
The coach huffed out air but ________________ gestured to the back of her while rolling her eyes. Behind her was the entrance to the arena. Not that he had any idea how to get there. Instead he made his way around and jumped over the railing once he was at the area the entrance stood below.
“You could have taken the stairs,” ___________ arched an eyebrow.
“Uh yeah, this way was faster. Anyway,” _____________ wanted to brush away his suspicious actions and refocus on the reson he was here.
He reached into his pockets and pulled out the papers, her equations. They were still folded so _________________ didn't take just looked at it then at him. ______________ sighed as he unfold the equation.
“I was, am, working my own mathematical statement but couldn't find the solution. Or worst yet it was unsolvable. I tried charging the variables here and there but I wasn't changing the right ones. And then I happened upon your paper.“ He handed her the unfold papers.
She looked at it skeptically but widen when she recognize her hand writing. She snatched the papers from his hands now looking carefully at what was written. It is indeed her writing, not only that it was the missing part of her incantation she was had to submit couple of days ago. Wait did he said equation. That was when recognize struck her.
“You're not a college student, not a student from here at all,” she hissed in a quite.
“Well yeah, but I have permission.”
______________ eyed him warily.
“You see that girl over there,” he pointed to where ________________ was still sitting and watching.
“The transfer.“
“The, the transfer?“
”99.8% of this body of students attended this school since diapers, so when new student joins in everyone knows and becomes a big deal for a while.“
“Um, uh huh, well, she was instructed to give me tour of this place. After accidently breaking in just to find you. To give you those papers back.“
“Ok, thanks for bringing them back,” she turned to walk away when _______________ stepped in her path.
“I also risk trouble to ask you, if you'll like to work together, as a team? My equation was a bust until I applied some of your equation—”
“Incantation,” ___________ corrected, arms folded over her chest but she was facing him.
“……Incantation, that it work. Kind of. Not the results I expected but it worked. Something happened,“ _______________ let out a little breaty laugh, ”and I have a feeling that the reason you are still listening and hadn't ratted me out because your… incantation isn't yielding results either. We can help each other.“
________________'s jaw cleched a little at his accusation but she refused to let it sink in. She looked him up and down considering saying yes but not fully feeling safe enough to.
“_________________, this is magical defense not social club let's go! “ Her coach called out to her.
“Coming,” _____________ called before turning back to ________________. She closed her eyes as her father's face and words came to her, she took his hand pulled up his self.
_______________ was startled but didn't yank back up his arm. _____________ then pulled out a marker. “Meet me here at around four pm, if your memories are still intact.” She written an address down on his skin then pressed her hand firmly on the same area.
Stinging and tingled sensation ran up his skin he wanted to jump away but remained still. Then she removed her hand and smiled satisfied.
“It's not much magic but now only you should be able see the address.“
He arched an eyebrow but didn't press to question her further. After all there were plenty of eccentric and weird geniuses in the world she is no different. He turned to some how find himself out of this upside down and sideways place. But there was one thing that still pickled in the back of his mind. What did she meant by 'if your memories are still intact'. He wanted to question her but she had already rejoined the class. Did this so school had some sick secret medical facility that does experiments on trespassers like himself.
Yeah, he was not sticking around to find out. He hurried down the dark and humid corridor that lead to more hallways. He found the entrance to the stairs but faltered on taking it due to the possibility of what or more like who could still be waiting up there for him. He turned away from it and made his around a corner. More than ten minutes have to assed, this place was a maze and he was lost.
“Over here,” a familiar voice called out to him.
He turned to see ___________________ leaning against a wall. She was no longer hugging her books, in it's place was a thin thick folder. ________________ bounced herself off the wall using her back muscles. She turned away from walking the way he just came. He watched her skeptically but followed from a distance. Why didn't ______________ mention anything about mind erasing. Or maybe there was none and it was just a highschooler's prank. But he had no conclusive reason to doubt any of these women than he had to trust them. But soon the long dark hallways gave to light.
There at the end was an open entrance. And standing in it was _____________ looking back at him. He sidestep to the other side of the entrance but before he could go any further ________________ thrust the folder in his direction.
“For you. From the dean.“
He cautiously took the folder and looked the folder but he couldn't understand what he was looking. I mean he could understand the writing and what was written but why give it to him.
“Welcome to _______________ Comprehensive Academy. Guess we are classmat
es now.“ She said as she made her way back down the dark corridor.
